The above satire by Carey Burtt, “Mind Control Made Easy or How to Become a Cult Leader,” dramatizes techniques employed by organizations which aim to take advantage of mentally and emotionally vulnerable individuals. Organizations behaving in this manner can take a variety of forms but typically advertise rewards of personal or social enrichment or improvement. However, membership in such an organization may result in the destruction of previously happy relationships with non-members, financial losses and mental anguish. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and Uncle Sam’s Coup

Hugo Chávez was a Venezuelan military officer who led a failed coup attempt against the Venezuelan government in 1992 and was imprisoned for it. Several years later, he ran for President and won. The above video, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (Chavez – Inside the Coup),” documents the brief 2002 coup attempt against Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez after he had been in power for several years. The coup succeeded for a day or two and then Chávez returned to power. A reply video titled “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Lies” has been produced. However, most of its arguments deal with relatively superficial to nearly irrelevant details of the situation. One of its more serious claims is that the general strikes immediately preceding the coup attempt which had been intended to bring down the government were headed by both the business union (FEDECAMERAS) and the labor union leaders (CTV) but it does not mention that CTV, which had made major concessions to neoliberal interests in the prior decade, suffered debilitating losses of support as a result of this alliance. This second and much shorter video, “Venezuela – Uncle Sam’s Coup,” features the work of Eva Gollinger, a dual U. S.-Venezuelan citizen who has dug up U. S. government documents related to the coup attempt. As her efforts uncovered, a CIA brief contained detailed information about the coup weeks in advance of its occurrence. The money trail behind the plot led these investigators straight to Washington, where records showed hundreds of thousands of American dollars being funneled into Venezuelan opposition groups in the year prior to the coup attempt. The Panama Deception

“The Panama Deception” is an Oscar-winning 1992 documentary about the U. S. invasion of Panama in December of 1989 to oust General Manuel Noriega, the then-leader of the country and a longtime CIA asset, under the pretense of “restoring democracy” to Panama. Civilian and military targets alike were attacked and destroyed in an overwhelming offensive by U. S. forces, leaving high numbers of townspeople dead and their houses burned to the ground. Civilians including cultural, political and trade union leaders were arrested and some were executed in the streets. The United Nations condemned strongly the illegal and unjustifiable massacre while the U. S. corporate media applauded the tactical efficacy of the operation. The new, U. S.-backed Panamanian leaders ushered in following the takeover then did their part in reducing Panama to an instrumentality of the United States even more so than under Noriega, who had, before his removal, shown some signs of breaking with the command in Washington. “Indictment: Inside the Oklahoma City Grand Jury – The Hoppy Heidelberg Story” highlights Oklahoma City Bombing Grand Juror Hoppy Heidelberg’s involvement with the effort to indict Timothy McVeigh for the destruction of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in April 1995. Heidelberg was unhappy with the way the prosecution tried to manhandle the jurors and limit their powers of inquiry and was eventually thrown off the jury for being too critical of the proceedings, which left many an important stone unturned. Like 9/11, like 7/7 and like many other high-profile acts of terrorism, the Oklahoma City Bombing has left many who’ve researched beyond the government’s convenient patsies and unlikely official version with many questions about who really committed the crime. “Food, Inc” is a 2009 documentary concerning the food industry in America. Prominent themes include genetically modified organisms (GMOs), organic versus synthetic fertilizer and pesticide-based production, the conditions found within the meat and dairy industries, the consolidation of already large agriculture companies into monopolistic monoliths of production in the past few decades and the “eat local” movements which are starting to assert themselves in response to a national food economy which has moved into the hands of a very small and very centralized command structure. The Future of Food

“The Future of Food” by Deborah Koons Garcia is a 2005 documentary about the history of genetically modified food crops (GMOs for short) and the impact that these organisms have on the vegetable gene pool and on those organisms, including humans, who ingest them. In the United States, certified organic crops cannot be GMO but there is no legal requirement for producers to label any other crops as genetically modified. Therefore, with the abundance of GMOs in the food system today, if someone eats non-organic canola (rapeseed oil), corn or soybean products, there is better than a fifty percent chance that that person has been exposed to GMOs. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) official position is that there is no difference between GMO and non-GMO crops in terms of safety but many researchers have concluded otherwise. The origins of the Gladio network may have been surrendered fascists who were put into the employ of the OSS/CIA following World War II for deployment in the event of a Soviet invasion of Europe but who may have, in fact, been deployed to smear and prevent the rise of the political left in Italy and elsewhere. “Fallujah: The Hidden Massacre” is a short (28 minutes) documentary concerning the U. S. armed forces’ use of the incendiary weapon known as white phosphorous (a. k. a. “Whiskey Pete”) in the Iraqi town of Fallujah. It is an international war crime to use white phosphorous against civilians or against military forces in areas with high civilian concentrations. The Fluoride Deception

“The Fluoride Deception” is the story of water fluoridation in America. It is the classic story of big business corrupting science to meet the agenda of a greater bottom line. Is fluoridation safe and effective? Why is the U. S. one of the only systems in the world which still fluoridates the public water supply? This hidden history of the mass medication of the American people via fluoridation, from its origins in the steel, aluminum and fertilizer factories, as well as in the atomic bomb development plants under the Manhattan Project, may surprise you. Also, since 2006, the American Dental Association has held the following position on fluoride intake for infants:

“Infants less than one year old may be getting more than the optimal amount of fluoride (which may increase their risk of enamel fluorosis) if their primary source of nutrition is powdered or liquid concentrate infant formula mixed with water containing fluoride… If using a product that needs to be reconstituted, parents and caregivers should consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride.”

Fluoride, however, is relatively difficult to remove from water, and can only be extracted by distillation, reverse osmosis, or activated alumina. Infants in areas where the public water supply has been fluoridated therefore do not have access to water which is safe for their tiny bodies unless extra investments are made by their caregivers, many of whom are not ever aware of this problem due to the utter lack of media coverage of challenges to the policy of fluoridation from any quarter.
