There’s not much to be said about Metanoia’s “Psywar” except that it bears watching. A history of the public relations industry, this outstanding documentary explores the highly deleterious impact of organized and well-funded propaganda efforts on a would-be democratic society. Robert Kane Pappas’ “Orwell Rolls in His Grave” is probably the premier video overview of what is wrong with the media today and how American democracy has suffered as a result of the faults of this essential part of a self-governing society. Featuring Robert McChesney, Mark Crispin Miller, Bernie Sanders and others, “Orwell” covers a wide range of topics from the depoliticizing of the American public at the hands of the infotainment-oriented “news” agencies to the widespread media consolidation following the sweeping deregulations of the Reagan era. This presentation by The Corbett Report details the secret history of the Mujahadeen which, after a series of mutations, gave rise to what is known today as “Al Qaeda.” According to Zbigniew Brzezinski, an advisor to U. S. President Jimmy Carter, a directive signed by Carter in July 1973 gave secret funding to Muslim religious extremists in Afghanistan, the subsequent organization of whom contributed to a decision by the USSR to invade that mountainous country. In response, the U. S. gave more aid, arms and training to the Afghanis, among whom were counted Saudi exile Osama bin Laden and his followers, to help them combat the Soviets. In this way, the seed was planted, fed and watered, and this aid from the U. S. continued through the 1990′s. [END] Permalink: Al Qaeda Doesn’t Exist
John Pilger’s“Breaking the Silence: Truth and Lies in the War on Terror” questions the fundamental motives for the so-called “War on Terror” of the United States. In this video, Pilger explores the U. S.’ extensive recent history of military interventions both overt and covert in dozens of nations worldwide which, in the 21st century, have been expanded into a quest for what the Bush administration termed “full spectrum dominance” on a global scale. The “whole truth” about anything may or may not be knowable, let alone expressible. Nevertheless, Robert Greenwald’s “Uncovered”, promoted heavily by the MoveOn PAC, interviews a number of U. S. government officials and ex-officials who have something to say about the Iraq war being a fraud. The lies which paved the way for the U. S. invasion of Iraq here are discussed at length by insiders from the CIA, armed forces and other institutions. [END] Permalink: Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War
“The Panama Deception” is an Oscar-winning 1992 documentary about the U. S. invasion of Panama in December of 1989 to oust General Manuel Noriega, the then-leader of the country and a longtime CIA asset, under the pretense of “restoring democracy” to Panama. Civilian and military targets alike were attacked and destroyed in an overwhelming offensive by U. S. forces, leaving high numbers of townspeople dead and their houses burned to the ground. Civilians including cultural, political and trade union leaders were arrested and some were executed in the streets. The United Nations condemned strongly the illegal and unjustifiable massacre while the U. S. corporate media applauded the tactical efficacy of the operation. The new, U. S.-backed Panamanian leaders ushered in following the takeover then did their part in reducing Panama to an instrumentality of the United States even more so than under Noriega, who had, before his removal, shown some signs of breaking with the command in Washington.
